Black Friday

Today is Black Friday and I so much wish it was a different kind of day. I wish people would put the effort towards something less materialistic. I wish they didn’t spend hours in line to purchase a TV. I wish they would give $20 to charity instead of spending it on something they probably don’t need that bad.

But truth is, consumerism takes ahold of people’s lives, to slowly ruin them, causing blurred reality to strike back. Nobody needs 30 pairs of shoes, bags, rings… This Thanksgiving Holiday should be the one YOU change for the better. Go through your closet and realize the damage consumerism has done. It made you think you would be unhappy without all that stuff. But, don’t you still cry? Don’t you feel sad sometimes? See? The tons of clothes haven’t resolved any of your problems. But you can make the less fortunate a lot happier by giving them things they DO need: shoes, pants, sweaters, food.

Do a little:spend a lot less.
Thanks are given to you for trying to make others a bit less sad.

Forever Oprah

Oprah Winfrey, Barack Obama & Michelle Obama

Today it’s everywhere in the news, Ms. Winfrey, queen of talk shows, will no longer conduct her talk show after Sept 2011. This gives me the exact impulse I was looking for all these years: to prepare to become the NEXT OPRAH. I have two years to evolve into the princess of talk shows.

We are both Aquarians who love dogs, to make people happy and hate surprises. We both have to hold back the tears in every show, but she succeeds WAY better than I can. But, this time, The successor of Oprah will be multilingual, bi-cultural and a mother. What do you think? Is the world ready for me? I can do this. I know I can. I know I want to.
Thanks for your support.

About Books

The Little Prince
Image via Wikipedia

I think it’s only fair that I give free publicity to my favorite books of all time. Maybe that will bring me luck in selling my eBook which is only $5. If not, at least it may bring someone to take the wonderful habit of reading. Not mentioned: Chuck Palhaniuk, just because I own everything he has written and it’s hard to select a favorite.

There is no particular order but these are my top 10:
The Rage and The Pride, by Oriana Fallaci
– Before the Legend, The Rise of Bob Marley by Christopher John Farley
The Little Prince, by Antoine de Saint Exupery
A New Earth, by Eckhard Tolle
Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert
The Catcher in the Rye by J.D Salinger
The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success by Deepak Chopra
– Siddhartha by Herman Hesse
All Marketers are Liars by Seth Godin
Blink by Malcolm Gladwell

So, there you have it. It was very hard to select only ten because there are at least 5 more that should be on that list, but, I did it. I hope you enjoy reading.

bien bueno, bravo.

This is something I applaud, because I know Eli and have watched how, through the years, she has been fighting for human rights with every bone in her body.  This what I call FIERCE FEMALES FOR FREEDOM. Yes, I just made that up, but I like it.

Bravo Chicas… Gracias en nombre de todos!

True Travolta

Today John Travolta was on Biography channel.

I met the guy, for 5 minutes I was sitting in front of him having his complete attention. It was during the junket for Battlefield Earth, circa 1999, in Miami. The vibe I got was as great as it gets. He said hello to other reporters, looking at each one with a big smile. Something about him was so genuine, so down-to-earth, so perfect.

I had always liked him, but after then, I loved him and everything about him and his family. I knew my instinct was right. He is a true kind soul.

Recently, he lost his son Jett. I suffered just thinking about how he must have felt. I know that accident killed a part of him and his wife. A big part. I wish I had a phrase that would help him heal a bit; but truth is there isn’t anything anyone can say to ease that pain.

I am grateful for having that opportunity to sit with him briefly, I wish it had been longer, but truth is, I’m blessed for perceiving the true Travolta; his essence was so palpable that it made me respect him even more.

Thank you John, and know for sure that Jett is an angel watching over you. I have no doubt.

Art Without The Glove

SAN FRANCISCO - JULY 24: Omar Vizquel #13 of ...

My dear friend Omar Vizquel is more than a baseball player. His 11 gold gloves do not reflect his talent outside of the diamond. Besides being an excellent musician (drummer), a perfect dancer, and a kind soul, he’s an avid artist. His paintings have been showcased in Cleveland and San Francisco among other places. Now, I have some of his artwork for sale. But, you better hurry because I only have about 15 left.

I will post pictures soon, but in the meantime,if you’re interested, email me directly and I’ll send you pictures in better quality.

Thanks for the love.

last call

TV producers  of shows like DORA the Explorer, Diego, Handy Manny, and others, have to be conscious about their jobs. It’s negligent, irresponsible, and simply mediocre to hire NON-LATINOS to perform the voices for characters that are, supposedly, Latin.

Sure, the average American won’t notice the difference. They won’t know if the character Mayor Rosa is speaking Spanish or Portuguese. But the rest of us, Latinos, the largest minority group in the States, can hear the voice over say HERAMIENTAS, without the characteristic rolling of the R’s; it’s HERRAMIENTAS!

It’s such an easy task, find people that speak Spanish as their first language. Even Wilmer Valderrama who plays the voice of MANNY sometimes lacks the correct pronunciation; and he’s Venezuelan! But, he was raised in the USA, so from time to time you can sense his struggle.

Honestly, dear producers, please allow me to help. Please cast the right people and STOP thinking the average child is ignorant. MY son is 18-months old and when he copies, or imitates, what the cartoon characters he so much loves are saying, I expect him to say it right. I don’t want to hear him saying it wrong and it’s what will happen, eventually, if you teach him wrong. Have mercy!
